Hazrat Inayat Khan

We study the Sufi teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan, the first Sufi teacher who brought universal Sufism to the West in 1910. Studies may also include the teachings of Hazrat Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, Pir Zia Inayat Khan, and Hazrat Murshid Samuel L. Lewis, as well as prayers, meditation, chanting practices, breathing exercises, poetry, singing, teachings of classical Sufis, and some discourse. Our universal approach to spirituality honors all religions and welcomes everyone.

This class is typically held on the first and third Thursday of each month. Please contact Church of All for more details and updated schedule.

Jelaliddin Rumi

Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi, who passed from this earth over 700 years ago on December 17, is now the 'most popular poet in America.' The Mevlevi Order is the Sufi order founded by Mevlana Rumi and the members of this order are called Mevlevi. The Mevlevis are known for the spiritual practice of “whirling” – Turning to God. The primary source of study for the followers of Mevlana Rumi is the Mathnawi. It is from the Mathnawi/Mesnevi that much of today's popularized poetry is taken. We will read from the Mathnawi, share poetry, and participate in zikr/dhikr (which is a chanted Sufi practice of invoking divine phases). If there is sufficient interest and commitment from those wishing to go deeper, we will begin classes in the Turn. Tasnim is a semazen (a Mevlevi dervish trained in the Turn) and a member of the Mevlevi Order of America headed by Postneshin Jelaluddin Loras, of Turkey.
